IMPROVING THE SCHOOL GROUNDS.
* A correspondent elsewhere in this issue complains of the unlovely appearance of the local State School grounds, and suggests that the Committee and Headmaster take steps to improve and beautify them. We agree that something should be done in the nature indicated, but the Committee’s funds are exhausted, and unless sufficient money could be raised by special effort, the Committee could not undertake the work. The Board has, and is now, spending a large sum on fencing and other improvements,, and any beautifying should be done by local effort. If some scheme were set afoot to raise funds for the work, we feel sure parents and townspeople would respond, and the teaching staff and scholars would assist in the movement. We will pass the matter on to the School Committee for further consideration.
