SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.

Palmerston N., September 10. The Supreme Court continued to-day before Mr Justice Chapman. Arthur Henry Woods was sentenced to the maximum penalty seven years at the Supreme Court this morning for assault on a seven-year-old girl. The accused has just completed a five years’ sentence for a similar offence. Mr Justice Chapman said that for the safety of the community it was necessary to imprison him for the longest term possible. Wellington, September 11. At the Supreme Court to-day, John William Bishop, alias Brown, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment for theft. Dunedin, September ix. William Dwight, who had been committed for sentence for forgery and uttering, was this morning admitted to probation for 12 months by Judge Williams.
