THE FLEET AT MELBOURNE.

Men Entertain Themselves

Melbourne, September 4

Fifteen thousand of the Commonwealth forces and 2,500 Americans participated in the review yesterday. The weather was fine, and there were 50,000 spectators.

The Commonwealth Government provided dinner at night in -the Exhibition Building for 3000 men of the fleet. Only seven put in an appearance. In connection with this and several other functions, the visitors have shown a preference for entertaining themselves in their own way to being entertained.

The rifle match, the Fleet v. the Melbourne Rifle Glub, 15 aside, resulted in the Americans scoring 1,414, and Melbourne 1379. Corporal Farquharson, of the battleship Connecticut, won the challenge cup presented by New Zealand riflemen. A bandsman belonging to the battleship Vermont fell under a moving, train, and was killed, and another of the Vermont’s crew fell out of a moving train, and had his skull fractured.
