Man Killed by a Train.

Was He Her Husband

Wellington, August 13

A man, whose remains have not been identified, was killed at the esplanade crossing, Thorndon, by the Manawatu train that left the city for Paekakariki at 6,10 this evening. It is not known how the accident happened. The head of the deceased was found about 10 yards from the crossing and the body fifty >ards further on. Various portions of deceased’s clothing were scattered on both sides of the line. The right arm was pulled from the socket and the left arm was broken. The rails for nearly one hundred yards were spattered with blood. Deceased appeared to have been a working man between 40 and 50 years of age. The hands are oily and the clothes greasy, but whether by reason of his occupation or through the entanglement with the engine is not known. One woman who saw the remains to-night thinks they may be that of her husband. Later. The body of the man killed by the Manawatu train last night has been identified as that of John (or Charles Henry) Davis, a fisherman residing near Makara.
