THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.

A Co-operative Company Proposed.

A meeting of settlers representing Shannon, Moutoaand Foxton, was held at .Shannon last night to discuss the advisability of forming a Co-operative Dairy Association, and to discuss the offer of Messrs Dalgety and Co. to purchase the present butter factory at Shannon and creameries at Moutoa and Foxton. Messrs Dalgety and Co. ’s representative was present, and explained the figure at which the firm would be prepared to sell the factory and creameries to the settlers, also an offer to finance them. The majority of those present were in favour of starting a co-operative company. After a lengthy and desultory discussion it was decided to ask Messrs Dalgety and Co. to hold over their offer until a valuation of the buildings, plant, etc., has been ascertained, when a further meeting will be held. Votes of thanks concluded the meeting.
