KEEGAN-NIGHTINGALE CO.
The Keegan - Nightingale Dramatic Company (late TaylorCarrington) staged the stirring military drama, “ The Roll of the Drum,” in the -Public Hall last night.. There was a good house, and the artists, who played their parts vigorously and well, were favoured with rounds of applause by the appreciative audience. The chief roles were taken by Horace Nightingale and Charles Keegan, as Paul Davenant and Colonel Kgerton, respectively. George Tarr as Jonathan Bull, and T. Tilton as his partner M. Alphonse Grenoville, were both remarkably good. The ladies’ parts as taken by Miss May Bradley as Countess Woronzoff, and Miss Isobel Murray “Nardine” her daughter, were excellently pourtrayed, and called forth plaudits at the fall of the curtain in each act; Miss Alice Hermann as Mrs Bull,.also acted well, likewise Rae Fosberry (Mr John Davenant). At the conclusion of the entertainment, the announcement by Mr Keegan, to the effect that it was the company’s intention to revisit Foxton in the course of five or six weeks’ time with the sensational drama “The Factory Girl,” was received by the audience with deafening applause, and we have no hesitation in saying that a bumper house will be ensured.
