BOWLING.

A meeting of those interested in the game of bowls was held in the Masonic Hall on Tuesday night, but owing to the inclement weather the attendance was not large. Mr A. D. Clemett, the convenor of the meeting, occupied the chair and briefly explained the object of the meeting. He said it was a matter of surprise to visitors that a town the size of Foxton did not possess a bowling green. As a result of a conversation .with several local residents, the present meeting had been called to discuss the question, and if the meeting was of opinion that a club should be formed, theu a committee .could be appointed to go into ways and means, decide upon a suitable site, etc. He said Mr Eddie, of Levin, who was experienced in the laying down of bowling greens, had kindly come along from Levin, and would be pleased to tender any information to the meeting on the question of cost, suitability of site, etc. After a desultory discussion, on the motion of Mr Heunessy, it was resolved that a club be formed, and a committee be set up to canvass for members and go into ways and means and submit same to a future meeting. The following committee was appointed: - Revs. Aitken and Mairs, and Messrs Clemett, Hem nessy, Horublow, Baillie, Bird, and Gordon.

Mr Eddie theu explained the area of ground required, size of green, etc. He said the approximate cost of laying down the green and walks would be £l5O, then there would be fencing, pavilion, water supply, up-keep, and other incidentals to take into consideration. If the green were laid down at an early date, it would be possible to play on it next January. Messrs Rev. Aitken, Clemett, and Heunessy were appointed a sub-committee to inspect certain sites, and ascertain upon what terms the land could be leased. It was decided to hold another public meeting when the committee had prepared its report.

Votes of thanks were accorded to Mr Eddie and the Chairman, and the meeting rose.
