VALEDICTORY.

A farewell dinner was tendered to Mr C. 1,. Barnard, by the brethren of the local Masonic Lodge, in Mr M. Perreau’s rooms last night, which was latgely attteuded. Wor. Bro. A. D. Clemett, G. 5.8., at the request of the W.M. (Wor. Bro. Healey), occupied the chair, and on his right was seated the guest of the evening. After partaking of the good things provided by Bro. Perreau, the following toast list was honoured : “King and Craft,’’ Chairman; “Grand Lodge,’’ Wor, Bro. Fraser and the Chairman ; “Our departing blether,” the Chairman, in proposing this toast, referred to the fact that Wor. Bro. Barnard was one of the charter members of the local lodge, its first treasurer, and an enthusiastic member of the craft, who had occupied the highest position it was in their power to confer upon him, and he had carried out his duties in an exemplary manner. After the toast had been drunk, with musical honouis, the Chairman said he had been entrusted with the duty of presenting Wor. Bro. Barnard with a handsome treasurer’s jewel. The brethren had thought that as lie was the lodge’s first treasurer, this jewel would be most appropriate, and serve to remind him of his connection with Lodge Te Awahou. Wor. Bro. Barnard feelingly responded. He appreciated the honour conferred upon him by the brethren, and he would ever fondly cherish in his memory his connection with the local lodge. Wor. Bro. L. E. Reade proposed “the Officers of Lodge Te Awahou,” responded to by Wors. Bros. Barnard and Healey, and Bros. Hornblow and Aitkeu ; “ Sister Lodges and visiting brethren,” proposed by Bro. Aitken, and responded to by Wor. Bro. Read, Bros. Rough and Wilson; “Tyler’s Toast,” Bro. Johansen. At intervals songs were contributed by Bros. Reade, Geo. Baiber, Woods, W. Bullard, recitations by Bros. G. Aitken and Hornblovv, and piano selection by Mr Cornwall. The proceedings concluded with cheers for Mr and Mrs Barnard and the Chairman, and the singing of “Au'd Lang Syne.” Votes ofthanks were passed to Mr Cornwall for presiding at the piano, and to Bro. Perreau for the excellent catering arrangements.
