MISHAP TO THE S.S. MOA.
Wanganui, July 20,
The steamer Moa, which went ashore at Castlecliff on the 6th inst,, was brought into the river safely after a series of exciting incidents. She was hauled off the beach and the lighter. Shamrock began to tow her into the river when the tow line carried away. She then drifted into dangerous proximity to the South Spit where she managed to drop an anchor to which she rode till to-night, when a leak was sprung. The waters rose till the fires were extinguished, and as the vessel was minus a propeller, rudder or pumps, the position was serious, especially as a heavy sea was running. The Harbour Board’s tug Togo went to the rescue, and after an exciting time brought the steamer into the river, where she was run up on a mud bank in order that repairs may be made.
