CORRESPONDENCE.

We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by our correspondents.

fTO THE editor.]

Sir, —If you will allow me a small space in your columns, I would like to draw public attention to a certain portion of the Shannon road which is very inconvenient for the traffic generally, when passing to and fro from Shannon or Foxton. This said portion of road seems to be absolutely devoid of metal, and in times of flood leaves an awkward stick-up for coaches and other vehicles, after the water has cleared from the road. Such was the case on Monday night last when a party of some 18 or 20 persons (a big load) when paying a visit to Shannon were delayed some considerable time, the passengers having to alight and paddle in silt a foot deep in some places, which was not too pleasant for them. The said portion of the road is about a quarter of a mile from the bridge. For the benefit of others who have to travel by coach or vehicle, could not this part of the road be made solid so that it can be safe to travel that way and not be stuck up or otherwise delayed. Hoping my statement will take effect, and trusting that your valuable space will not be wasted.—l am, etc., Sympathiser. Avenue Road, July 15, 1908.
