Levin-Foxton-Greatford Route.
The Minister’s Reply. Mr Field asked the Minister for Railways whether, now that the North Island Main Trunk line was approaching completion and the Wellington-Manawatu railway about to become State property, a place would be given in the Schedule of the Railways Authorisation Bill this session to the Eevin-Foxton-Greatford deviation. The question, said the Minister, was one worthy of, and would receive due consideration. It was not considered advisable at present, in view of the necessities of other portions of the Dominion where railway communication was urgently needed, to make provision for a line of railway which to some extent would be a duplication of an existing service. Arrangements would, however, be made to have a more detailed survey prepared as soon as an engineer could be spared for the work.
