THE LIBEL LAW.

Among the new bills to be introduced during the present session of Parliament, we are pleased to note one on the Law of Libel. It is about time the present law was amended, in order to protect newspaper proprietors against unscrupulous damage hunters and men of straw, some of whom have nothing to lose, not even a character, while pressmen are put to considerable expense and worry. The law should be so amended so as to compel the man with an alleged grievance against a newspaper to deposit with the Court such sum as will cover the cost of an action at law, in case he should fail.
