The Manawatu Herald. TUESDAY, JUNE 30, 1908. TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.
In the course of his speech at Greytown last Wednesday night, the Premier said he had authorised that every telephone exchange which had 50 or more subscribers should remain open from 8 a.ra. to 8 p.m. As Foxton possesses more than the required number of subscribers mentioned by the Premier, we hope to see the local exchange open between the hours above mentioned. At present the hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is unnecessary for us to mention the advantage and saving of time and inconvenience to subscribers the extra hours would afford. Our representative waited upon the local Postmaster in reference to the subject, and was informed that be had not received official intimation of the fact mentioned, but he would be only too pleased to meet the wishes of subscribers in bringing the matter under the notice of his superior officer. We hope the necessary steps will be taken immediately to have the extra hours adopted locally.
