Foxton Sub-Union.
A meeting of the Foxton SubUnion was held in the Post Office Hotel, on Thursday night. Present ; Messrs Robinson (chairman), Bird, Reid, Hynes, Cook, Whibley, Frankland, and Wanklyn (secrctar}'). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
It was decided that the third class competition commence on Saturday, June 27th. F. Charles’ application for a transfer from the Awahou Club to the Albions was granted. The Junior teams forwarded an application asking that a capable referee be appointed for Saturday’s match. After discussion it was deci led that Dr. Adamis be appointed. A letter from Mr IS. Dunn, offering his services as referee in the Junior matches was received. A lengthy discussion took place in reference to the Rongotea Club’s application to enter a senior team for the competition now in progress.
Resolutions innumerable were moved and withdrawn, and it was finally decided to rescind a resolu - tion passed at a previous meeting that Rongotea’s application to enter a team be accepted. The Senior fixtures between-Awahou and Albion as previously arranged will be adhered to.
Here are one or two new items in the talk that W. Johnston, the All Black forward, had with a reporter the other morning. He said that he had signed on at a big retainer to play for Wigan next season, and that he will return to England early in September. Besides the retainer he will receive 10s for a win, and 5s for a lose, with two matches a week, and he will be given employment at the same wage as he would receive here. George Smith got lor eleven matches to play for Oldham, and Todd signs on for to captain Wigan the next season. Wrigley also returns to England in a few weeks to play for Runcorn, also at a retainer of with work as a plumber at £2 12s a week. The New Zealand tour to England is being talked of, and Johnston would not be surprised to see a team leave here the season after next. —Dominion.
