Remarkable letters have reached the office of a Eondon newspaper from readers who wish to enter the National’Thrift Society’s competition.

To celebrate its thirteenth anniversary, the Society is offering £3O in prizes (£ls, £lO, and £5) to the three men or women who can show the best record of industrial thrift for a period ot thirty years. The letters have been forwarded to Mr Thomas Bowden Green, Secretary to the National Thrift Society, Finsbury-Circus, E.C., to whom all communications on the subject should be addressedWe append outlines of the life stories of some of the candidates :

Wages, £lO to £l6 a year. Present place thirty-eight years. Has £173 in Consols, and £167 in savings bank. Bought annuity of £l2.
