That the Chairman’s action in attending the meeting called by the Foxton Chamber of Commerce to urge the Minister of Railways to hand over the receipts of the Foxton whart to the proposed Harbour Board, be endorsed, and that the Chairman be appointed to accompany the deputation to wait on the Prime Minister. That Messrs McWilliams and Andrews’ tender for repairs to the Whirokiuo bridge, at A 589 I 3 S 4-d be accepted, and the necessary sureties be arranged for. It was decided to ascertain the cost of the drain Mr P. W. Brown, Foxton, had cleaned. The Council would then consider whether they would pay half the cost. To allow Mr Piggott to close Shannon ferry now the bridge was ready. To write to Mr Raikes, Himatangi, stating that he would have to apply to the overseer before taking clay, because people taking clay without instructions were liable to injure pit. To pay something towards cost of opening ceremonies of the Fox-ton-Sbannon bridge, and all councillors who cduld would be present.
Resolved that the application of Messrs W. C. Ho wan, G. Reay and E- Blake for renewal of slaughtering licenses be forwarded to the Agricultural Department. That the Council appoint a deputation to wait upon the Prime Minister in the early part of the session for the purpose of urging the Government that the scope of the Rocal Bodies Roans act should be extended so as to allow Rocal Bodies to borrow for the construction and renewal of tramways, the purchase of rolling stocks and machinery, such as stone-crushers, steam rollers, etc., and that Rocal Bodies on this coastjbe asked to and representatives to join the deputation. Representatives of this Council to consist of the Chairman and the mover —McKenzie, Dalton. That applications be called for roadman.—McKenzie, Wilson. The following tenders were accepted : —C. Blacker, Contract 44, at 5s 3d per yard ; K. G. Knight, Contract 43, at 2s 6d per yard. TRAMWAY MANAGER’S RKPOR'i'. The credit balance for May was £l2 10s 2d, which is satisfactory, seeing that extra hands are still being employed on the Rongotea incline. Tne principle items of traffic were as follows : Grain 59J tons, general merchandise 94/4 tons, chaff 24 trucks, timber i6,ooott, metal and clay 295yds. The fares for month were ,£5 2s 5d-
Tramway receipts for May;— Wharfage, ,£ls 18s gd ; steamer, £,68 7s 3d ; rail, ,£l9 2s nd ; total ,£149 3s 3d. Expenses amounted to ,£136 13s id, leaving credit of 10s 2d. At the special meeting a general rate of 24 d in the ,£1 was passed for the following Ridings :—Mt. Stewart, Sandon, Waitohi, Carnarvon, and Awahon ; and one penny in the pound in Rongotea and Kawakawa Ridings, and separate rates of l /s d in Sandon and Mt. Stewart, 3-i6ths in Waitohi, and 1-13th in Carnarvon, and a special rate of %d in the £ in Whirokino division.
The Treasurer reported as follows:—General account dr. ,£1916 13s lod ; Loan account cr. £,'1073 12s 2d; net debit balance ,£843 is Bd. Ridings account.—Amounts available for expenditure—Sandon, 6s sd; Mt. Stewart, £,186 ißs6d; Waitohi, £277 15s 6d; Rongotea, £285 14s 2d; Carnarvon £260 7s 4d ; Kawa Kawa, £463 9s 4d; Awahou, £163 18s id ; Whirokino division, £7O 10s lod.
The Engineer reported as follows : Whirokino sub-Division. — Good work has been done with the road machine in trimming up the Whirokino road, No. 2 and No. 6 Lines have also been put in order with the road grader. I waited on Mr Brown in reference to a drain he has cleaned out along No. 6 Line; he thinks the Council should pay him half cost cleaning the drain.
Shannon Ferry.—Now that the Shannon bridge is completed and will be opened for traffic in a few days, it will be advisable to sell the punt, boat, and fixings by tender. The following is my estimate for metalling contracts ;—Contract No, 43, Rowe’s Line, 3s fid per yard; Contract No. 44, Main Drain road, 7s gd.
