A COURAGEOUS ACT.

A Woman’s Pluck. A gentleman with two little children, aged respectively tour ami six years, was recently driving from Goorabungee to Cooly Creek, Australia, in a sulky with one horse. The whip falling out of the trap, the owner of the trap pulled up and walked hack along the road to pick it up, leaving the horse and trap standing on the road. While he was away the horse became startled, and started off with the sulky at a canter. The children in the trap began to scream. This made the horse even more frightened, and he increased his speed to a full gallop, and tore along the road to Cooly Creek. The owner of the trap was left far behind, and in terrible suspense, expecting' at any moment to see his two little children smashed up with the trap. Mrs L. D. Ward, who was driving from Meringandan in a trap, with commendable promptitude, turned her horse and trap off the road, got out herself, and waited for the now madly-infuriated horse. As the animal came abreast of her, Mrs Ward sprang forward and grasped the reins with one hand and the horse’s main with the other. The plucky woman was lifted clean off her feet by the bolting horse, and dragged about a chain. The brave woman never let go her hold, but kept speaking to the horse to quiet him. Eventually she brought the animal to a stop, and so saved the lives of the two little children. ,
