Extent of Endowments Promised.
The member tor the district has received the following letter from the Hon. Minister for Marine under date of 26th May : —Sir, —Adverting to your letter of the 15 th February last, on the subject of the proposed constitution of a Harbour Board at Foxton, and to the deputation on the subject which you recently introduced to me, T have the honour to state that the question as to the endowments which can be granted to the Board if it is established, has been before Cabinet, and it has been decided that the Government will agree to the following endowments being vested in the Board viz.:—The foreshore on both sides of the river from the Heads to McGregor’s Bend, but not including the existing wharf and appurtenances thereto. As regards the request that the Board should be endowed with wharfage dues less the cost of railway freight ard actual cost to the Department of handling the goods, this matter has been referred to the Railway Department, to which the wharf belongs, but that Department has not so far agreed to the request that the Board should be endowed with the dues being acceded to. With reference to the matter of supplying plans of the proposed endowments, I am informed by the Department of Rands and Survey that the local authorities interested should write to the Chief Surveyor at Wellington and ask him for duly certified plans of the areas in question, and that these plans would then be approved by him in accordance with the Standing Orders.
