Messrs Levin and Company, Limited, Wellington, report as follows regarding Friday’s sale. We held our fortnightly sale today, offering a small quantity of wool in bales and bags, 1,000 skins, 560 hides and a quantity of tallow and horsehair. Wool. — Market remains steady at last sale rates. We quote:—Medium crossbred, 3d to 3d ; lambs wool, qd to 3d ; pieces and locks, id to 2d. Skins. — Market firm at last sale rates. We quote : —Fine crossbreds, qd to skins, 2d to 3d ; dead hoggets, xLsd to i%d\ lamb skins, 3d to \£zd ; green pelts, 2s to 2s qd ; green lambs (woolly), 2s to 2s yd ; green lamb (pelts), is to is yd. Tallow. —Steady. Parcels in shipping order £22. Tins, £ls to £l9. Rough fat, £lO to £l3. Horsehair :—is to id per lb. Horns : 5s to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails : is 6d to is 8d per dozen. Hides. —We had a heavy catalogue of hides which were well competed for at last sale prices. We quote : —Ox hides (heavy), 6d to 6}4d; ox hides (medium), 6d ox hides (light), qd to 5-jHjd ; cow hides, to cut and slippy hides, 2d to 3>£d ; stag hides, 2 1 /zd to 3j4d; bull hides, 2d to to 5%d ; calf cut and slippy, 2d to 3dLONDON MARKET REPORTSMessrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, have received the following cable messages from their London Plouse, under date of the 21st instant; — Wool. —Sales continue firm, and prices are rather higher, especially for greasy medium and coarse crossbred and good Merino combing wools (free). The programme of sales will be shortened by three days, closing 29th May. Butter. Maket weak. The Copenhagen official is 1 kroner (about is i/f>d) per cwt. higher. The total imports of butter into the United Kingdom for the week ending 16th instant amounted to 77,000 cwt., as compared with 103,000 cwt., for the corresponding week of iyo7; showing a decrease of 26,000 cwt. Finest, loqs. Owing to poor demand for Australian, it may be found necessary to place in cool stores. Frozen Meat. — There is a good demand for frozen lamb, but at unchanged prices. Frozen beef and mutton, fair demand at unchanged prices. Rabbit Skins. —There are indications of an advance in prices. Tallow. —Since our last advices, tallow is at par to 3d per cwt. lower. The decline is chiefly on beef and mixed tallow of good colour. HIDE AND SKIN REPORT.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, Wellington, held their usual fortnightly sale of wool, skins, and hides on Friday, when a good catalogue of skins and hides was offered to full attendance of buyers. The demand for skins showed an improvement on last sale, prices for best lines being about one half-penny per lb in excess of previous rates. There was also good competition for hides, and a firmer tone ‘existed throughout, prices being slightly in advance of last sale. We quote as follows : —Wool. —Crutchings, 2d to 2 1 /{d per lb; slipped lambs, 4%}d ; crossbred, 3M. Sheepskins : Full-woolled crossbred, to d ; fine crossbred, 4M ; half-wool crossbred, crossbred, shorts, 3 to 3ifd ; crossbred, dead and broken, 2}(d to 334.fi ; lambs, broken, 2yid ; crossbred salted, 2s qd to 2s ud each; half-bred salted, 2s 6d each; lambs, salted, is yd to is 8d each. Hides. —Ox: 72 lbs to 75 lbs, 6>4d to 6S/, gd per lb ; 54 lbs to 62 lbs, 4y6d to to 48 lbs, 4 ]4.d to <\]/%d. Cow : 51 lbs, 45/sd ; 40 lbs to 41 lbs, to 4/sd; 37 lbs, 4d. Yearlings: 18 lbs, 3%d. Calf; 10 lbs 5d ; 6 lbs, dyad ; 6 lbs cut, llow;—ln shipping order ,£2l 5s to £2 3 per ton. In tins, 18s to ,£2l 3s per cwt.
