THE DIXON CASE.
Auckland, May it
A deputation from the Dnuy indignation meeting waited on the Hon. Mr McGowan, Minister of Justice, to-day, concerning the case of Dixon, imprisoned for failure to obey an order of the Court for back payment of wages to an employee. The deputation considered no punishment should be inflicted, because Dixon employed the man as an apprentice, and not as a journeyman. A sentence of two months’ imprisonment was too severe. Mr McGowan promised to give due consideration to the arguments. Mr Dixon had been allowed every consideration. He admitt- d that' he had means to pay the fine, but declared his intention not to do so. The Minister said he did not think he had the power or the right to interfere, but promised to reply as early as possible.
