S.M. COURT.
(Before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M.) The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held yesterday.
J. Spelman was charged by the police with being found drunk in a public place, to wit, the (Government railway carriages at Foxton. Evidence was given by the stationmaster, Mr Rodie. Accused pleaded guilty and was fined 10s and costs. Judgment was given for plaintiff in the following undefended cases : —P. Hennessy v. Teri Parata, T. Easton (Barnard) v. R. Eord, claim £8 17s 6d, costs £1 6s 6d ; J. K. Hornblow v. J. R. Goodall, claim £1 1 os, costs ;M. H. Walker v. Teri Parata, claim £\ is rod, costs ; C. W. Wycherley and Son (Barnard) v. F. Spiers, claim £$ 10s; judgment bjr consent, costs 12s ; same v. Alfred Arbou, claim 3s 6d ; by default 'costs. A. E. Shadbolt (Read-*) v. Timothy Hayes, claim costs 10s; S. J. Hickson (Rc.ide) v. W. Coyle, claim £3 3s costs 10s ; G. Brewer (Barnard) v. H. Robinson, claim £4 10s rent, judgment by default possession o! house to be given within three days, costs 26s 6d. In the defended cases, P. Hennessy (Barnard) v. Wm. and M. Derrick, claim £g ns gd) ; Watchorn Stiles and Co. (Barnard) v. the same, claim £6 is gd and W. C. Howau (Barnard) v. the same, judgment was given in each case against the husband. The Magistrate pointed out that if the wife was to be charged for the goods purchased, there should have been a distinct understanding to that effect.
