ATHLETICS.
Dunkdin, Last Night. A meeting of the N.Z. Athletic Union to-night it was decided to disqualify the Southland Caledonian Society and forward the dis qualification to the N.Z. Sports Federation for endorsement. This action arose through the Southland Society allowing disqualified competitors to take part in their New Year gathering despite representations from the Union. The last conference of the Union, held at New Plymouth in February last, fined the Society and requested them to pay first and second money to the second and third competitors so placed by them. The Southland Society seceded. Should the Sports’ Federation endorse the Union’s disqualifications the Society’s directors will be debarred from taking part in, or controlling any branch of the Sports’ Federation. Action re the Wanganui Caledonian Society was held over, pending information from Feilding and Taranaki. Messrs Aschman and Good (Christchurch) were appointed to represent the Union at a special general meeting of the N.Z. Sports Federation on May 30th.
