[TO THE EDITOR,]
Sir, —I saw in last Saturday’s issue a letter front a correspondent who signs himself “Sandboy,” in reference to the Shannon Ferry. I am very pleased to see that some abler pen than my own has taken up this subject, as I think it high time someone spoke up. The ferryman has, for some time past, been charging the general public a toll which, in my opinion, is positively extortionate, seeing that he has the use of the ferry free of charge. I know for a fact that some time before fresh tenders were called for working the ferry, the remark was made that in view ot the bridge going up there would be no applications to work the ferry, and as a consequence the “ bobs ” would be stuck on. No doubt it is very hard on our ferryman to see the shillings that might have been in his pocket, walking across the bridge. lam glad that the day has come when we can partly dispense with the services and charges of our esteemed ferryman, and I hope that before long the old Shannon ferry will be a thing of the past. Hoping I am not taking up too much of your valuable space.—l am, etc., Interested. Mouloa, May sth.
