London, May 4. , The Dundee contest—in which the Hon Winston Churchill is the chief figure—is becoming hot and fierce. Asked if Mr Asquith (Prime Minster) had telegraphed forbidding him to further pledge the Government to Home Rule, Mr Churchill denied the heckler’s right to ask about private correspondence. He denied that there was any disagreement between himself and Mr Asquith, and added that he was prepared to grant Home Rule to Scotland. Sir John Brunner (liberal), speaking at Norwich, advocated the nationalisation of railways, canals, and mineral resources, and liberal borrowing for national works.
