PRESBYTERIAN SALE OF WORK.

Public Hall To-night.

The above function will be opened at 7.30 o’clock this evening, by Mr J. A. Nash, Mayorelect of Palmerston, in the unavoidaWe absence of Mr J. G. W. Aitken, M.P. For months past a small band of self-saci ifi ring lady members of the Presbyterian Church have been working diligently in making up all descriptions of useful and ornamental needlework articles, _ for the purpose of submitting them lor sale to a generous public in order to raise funds for improving nud renovating their church. Their efforts have been supplemented by gifts from sympathisers and friends throughout the town and district and to-night and tomorrow night the whole result will be thrown open to the public. The hall has been most tastefully decorated with bunting and the stalls may justly be deemed works of art. . A shooting gallery, securely boarded in, runs along a portion of the northern wall. Messrs Alex. Ross, Rough senr., and Mouatt are responsible for this iugiuious contrivance. Targets, in the form of birds and beasts, glide along between rocks and a prettily painted background representing bush scenery. The animated objects are propelled by a dynamo. Iron plate shields arrest the bullets. On the stage the Dreadnought is safely moored, and its fair officets, Mrs Wrigley and Misses Aitken and Ross, in regulation uniform, are prepared to entertain visitors who come aboard, with refreshments. A middy will collect the fees at the gangway. Those possessing a sweet tooth will be catered for by Mrs A. Ross, and Miss Rough ; Messrs Johnson and Kay will attend pressing, business messages, or the greetings of “sweet young things,” per medium of a teal live telegraph system ; the produce stall is uuder the supervision of Mrs Rough and Miss Furrie, and amoug the exhibits we noticed some mammoth potatoes weighing 3lbs each, grown by Messrs Mathesou and Passey, of Tiakitahuna; the plain and fancy stalls containing a wealth of useful aud ornamental articles, are supervised by Mesdames Ross sent., Aitken, Hall, Mowatt, and Miss Blake; Miss McKenzie, of Carnarvon, is in charge of the prettily decorated flower stall; a book stall containing much food for the mind, is presided over by Mr McCall; the mysterious bran tub, the kiddies delight, is guarded by Mrs Henderson (Palmerston) and Miss B. Speirs; Misses Cargill, Wrigley and McEweu are responsible for the competitions. There are numerous other attractions, all capably managed and, finally, the musical programme, which is to include orchestral items, selections by the bellringers and vocal items. Such a feast of good things should attract the public in large numbers both to-uight aud to-morrow.
