THE DIXON CASE.

Mr J. T. Dixon, brother of Mr Dixon (who is at present undergoing imprisonment for failing to comply with an ordei of the court for the pajmeut of wages), writes to the Auckland Herald:—“The facts of the case are : Mr Dixon engaged a ceilain person as an apprentice, who after working for him for some time left and returned in about four years’ time. This person made an arrangement with Dixqu to work for 7s a day. Now, Dixon knew him only as an apprentice not yet out of bis time, and in offering him 7s per day knew very well he was giving him more than he should have as a four years’ apprentice. But he looked upon him as a friend, a neighbour whom he had known from a child, and believed he would try and make himself worth the extra money. However, after working for a few mouths, when it came to settling up, he demanded 8s per day, and when Dixon refused at once reported it to the union Hence the proceedings in the Arbitration Court, It is no use going further with the case, because the whole thing starts from this point, and if Dixon could have got a chance at the Arbitration Court he could have proved that this person was only a four years’ apprentice. I could write more on this case, but as it is in the hands of a solicitor 1 refrain. What I have wiicten is on behalfof my brother, who is not able to answer for himself. 1 think it is only fair that the public should know how the thing started from the first.”
