MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at Sanson yesterday. Present ;—Crs J. G. Wilson, Masters, Dalton, Barber, McKenzie, and Henderson.
Correspondence was read from the Treasury, notifying payment of £63 9s id, on account of tramway, and ,£3OO on account of Koputara and McDonell’s roads, also staling that the debt of the county would be inscribed under the term of 41 years at percent. From Palmerston Hospital Board, giving notice of a levy of ,£368 12s gd for hospital and charitable aid purposes. From Foxton Borough Council, forwarding the following resolution : That the Foxton Borough Council agrees with the proposal of the Manawatu County Council, allowing the ranger of the Foxton borough to impound all stock on the roads in the Awahou riding, all roads in the Whirokino subdivision, and along the PalmerstonFoxtou road as far as Bainesse, and the ranger’s fees to be paid and the driving fees received by the Manawatu County Council. From Stevens,Easton,and Austin, complaining of no action having been taken by the Council in regard to Paiaka road. From N.Z. Counties’ Association, forwarding opinion as to liability of local body for water from road drain, to the effect that there would be no liability.
The following transfers were agreed to : Section 63, Moutoa, A. Saunders to A. Jagger ; part 3of lot 44, Oroua Downs, Clark to LThompson ; part of 14, section 44, Oroua Downs, T. Clark to Jas. Robinson.
The engineer reported that the showery weather throughout last month has greatly improved the roads, which are now in fair order, with the exception pf where new metal has been placed on them. The Treasurer reported:— General Account, debit £305 19s rod ; Loan Account, credit £728 6s 2d., Riding accounts: Sandon, credit £4B 13s xxd ; Waitohi, £39 2s rod. Debit: Mt. Stewart, 3d; Kawakawa, £l2B ns 7d; Carnarvon, £B2 15s 3d ; Awahou, £l2B i5S2d ; Whirokino, £33 19s 9d. The Chairman was authorised to buy £SOO worth of steel rails for the tramline. It was decided to obtain poisoned grain for birds, and to give orders to settlers desiring to procure same from a chemist at Feilding direct. The tender of J. Cordue for cleaning out the Longburn Rongotea road at 2s gd was accepted, aud his tender for cleaning Government drain at Foxton at 23 xxd was accepted subject to the ratepayers paying half the cost. The Engineer is to report on who is responsible for gorse and blackberry growing on the roads, A special meeting of the Council is to be held on May 13, to strike a special rate on Whirokino division of the Awahou riding.
