THE DIXON CASE.

Auckland, April 6. At a public meeting at Drury in connection with the Dixon case, the following resolutions were carried: — (1) That this meeting of residents of Drury and surrounding districts appeal to the Minister for Justice, on behalf of Mr W. Dixon, for extension of time in which to lodge further notice of appeal against the decision of the Magistrate’s Court, the original notice having been declared informal; and," further, that Mr W. Dixon be immediately released pending the result of such rehearing: this resolution to be followed by a public petition, if necessary. (2) That in the opinion of this meeting the finding of the Magistrate in giving his decision in accordance with the finding of the Arbitration Court was faulty, inasmuch as he should have enquired into the question of whether the man was an apprentice, improver, or journeyman, which apparently was not done. Yesterday the Minister for Justice (the Hon., J. M’Gowan) received a telegram from Mr Massey (Leader of the Opposition) strongly urging the release of Mr Dixon. Mr M’Gowan stated that as he bad not received any report from the Magistrate who had committed Mr Dixon he could say nothing about the case yet.
