FOOTBALL.
In the Association football match on Saturday, England v. Scotland, each side scored a goal. The match was played at Glasgow. There were 130,000 people present, and 50,000 were turned away. The gate receipts show a record taking of ,£7OOO. Forty persons were injured in the crush. The Albions opened the season on Saturday last when they proceeded to Shannon and played a friendly game defeating the Shannon boys by 17 points to nil. The local boys played a plucky game and deserve encouragement. The Albions were only able to take 13 players. A return match is to be played at Foxton next Saturday, when much improved form should be shown by both teams. The Awahou club has secured the services of some new blood which should further strengthen their teams this season. D. J. Rachael, ex-rep. and the late of the Star club Invercargill, J. Henderson, a well-known Christchurch club player, and Dane, late of the Kia Toas will done the Awahou jerseys.
