EDUCATION BOARD.
Monthly Meeting. The Local Inquiry. By Telegraph—Special to Herald Wanganui, This Day. The ordinary meeting of the above Board was held last night. Present : —Messrs Pirani (Chairman), Bennett, Carroll, Dixon, Fraser, Spurdle, Purnell, and Aldridge. The cash statement showed that the general account was overdrawn £1458 10s id; technical account overdrawn ,£1728 ys yd ; maintenance account overdrawn £221 5s sd ; accounts passed for payment ys Bd. Mr Hewlett was appointed Turakina head teacher; Miss Robinson was appointed to Raetihi as assistant, and Miss Lynch to Makowhai. ' Resignation: D. Thomas, Maxwell. Leave of absence was granted to W. Griffiths, Kaitoke; A. McDonough, Campbell Street; M. Grant, Terrace End. The report of the Chief Inspector upon an enquiry held at Foxton with regard to the action of the headmaster and school committee, was adjourned. Copies of the report are to be sent to the committee and headmaster. Government grauts for new schools, ,£'345 Ohakune, and ,£324 Taoroa,
Mr Core, of Wanganui, was appointed commercial instructor for the whole district. Resolved to inform the Sanson Committee that they have no power to close the school for a week, except in cases of infectious diseases, and that they should have made application for a relieving teacher. In reply to a request from Taihape School Committee, asking that the school be converted into a District High School, it was decided that steps be taken as soon as the required information is received. r
