METHODIST CHURCH.
The Rev. Mr Mairs, the newlyappointed local Methodist minister conducted his first services at the Foxtou Primitive Methodist Church on Sunday last, and created a most favourable impression on his congregations, both in the morning and evening. Mr Mairs is a “ Lancashire lad,” and speaks in the dialect peculiar to that county. He is fired with enthusiasm, and admits a blunt, yet withal a kindly nature. During the course of his remarks, Mr Mairs said, “ l am a great believer in prayer, and I want your prayers for the success of my work in Foxton.” Like all Lancashbe people,be is very musical, and enters into the singing portion of the service with great gusto. Two particular departments he intends to supervise are the weekly prayer meeting and singing practice. He professes a great love for the working class, and confessed to having worked as hard, physically, as any man. He had been told that Foxton needed more spiritual life, and he was prepared to work. Mr Mairs conducted a prayer meeting at the close of the evening service.
