Members arriving at the House of Commons were much astonished to see, flying steadily over- Parliamentary Buildings, a banner inscribed “ Vote for Women.” It was subsequently discovered that this gentle reminder to legislators was suspended in the air by means of a war-kite, handled from the roof of a warehouse in Lambeth. The position of the 19 men cut off by the fire and entombed in the Hamstead mine is considered hopeless. Repeated and heroic efforts are being made to rescue them but all have so far failed. Johannesburg, March 7. General Botha stated that President Kruger left 14,000 sovereigns and 48,000 “ blue-backs ” which have been offered to Lord Milner, who refused to accept the money, which is still in the bank. Harry Smith, found guilty of the murder of Clinton, at Day Dawn, on January 5, has been sentenced to death. Bloomer and Potter were found guilty as accessories after the fact, with a recommendation to mercy, as they acted under Smith’s influence, and they were sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Berlin, March 6, The Kaiser sent lor distribution amongst the detachment of Cape Mounted Police who killed the Chief Morenga in German South-west Africa. The capture of Morenga was effected by a troop of police under Colonel Elliot. London, March 6. Failure attended repeated heroic efforts to rescue the nineteen men entombed in the Hampstead colliery, Birmingham, in which a fire occurred through the upsetting of candles. The position of the men entombed is now considered to be hopeless.
