THREE DAYS’ SLEEP.
Christchurch, February 23. . A steward' • named William Baker, empioyed pnthd Ruapehu, concluded a three days| sleep in the Christchurch . Hospital,. after, fruitless, efforts had been made to wake him. He had been taken to the institution s from the,steamer earlier in the day.. The man was shipped'on board the Ruapehu in London, and throughout the voyage enjoyed excellent health. On Wednesday night he waS playing cards 'otf the ship, but ceased at ,10 o’clock, saying he had a bad-head. He went to bed, and all efforts to arouse him on Thursday morning were without avail. He slept through Thursday. In the evening’ he' went on deck, but would speak to no one, add acted as he were a somnambulist. He soon returned to bed, and when the vessel arrived in Lyttelton he was steeping peacefully. A medical man ordered his removal to the hospital. He now seems to have resumed his normal condition.
