The body of Mary McLean, aged 89, was, found lying in the residence- where she lived with her daughter, aged 53. Attention was.attracted by the fearful odour. Enquiry revealed that the old lady died abbut a week ago, but the daughter would not allow anyone to enter the room, as she declared hes; mother < was quietly, sleeping, and must: not be disturbed; Madame Melba has sailed for Europe*. ... . ■ -.Adelaide, February 22.
An unknown man ran amok in 0 boarding-house, and fired five shots at a woman. He then'barricaded himself in a room and fired five shots at a detective who, With a constable, came to arrest him. All the .shots missed, - and-tbe detective fired three shots,,- slightly wounding the. man, who fought desperately till he was arrested. No motive is. assigned for. the action.. 1 ... ....,
