WATER SUPPLY.
Discussion in the Council.
At last night’s Borough Council meeting, Cr. Hennessy brought up the question of an artesian water supply lor the borough.. He said he had been in coversation with an artesian well sinker who would be prepared to put down a trial bore.. He suggested that the Council call tenders for such work.—Cr Baker said a water supply from artesian wells was oiily playing with the question. They should get their water supply from the hills at the back of Shannon. The Council should set up a committee to go into the whole question and to obtain the services of an engineer to report upon the scheme and ask the Shannon people to co-operate with them. He had no faith in any other scheme to provide Foxton with water.—Cr Gray said that if he had a reservoir connected with his artesian bore, he could supply half the inhabitants of Foxton with water.—The Mayor said he had not full confidence in artesian wells. They were liable to go dry.—Cr Hennessy moved and Cr Gray seconded that tenders be called for sinking one or more artesian wells, the first one to be sunk at the north end of Park Street, and the other in Main Strret.—Carried. Cr Baker objected.—Cr Baker moved and the Mayor seconded pro forma that the services of a competent engineer be obtained to report on a water supply scheme for the The Mayor stated that Mr Ward, engineer to the Moutoa Drainage : ‘ Board, would be visiting Foxton' shortly, and he would confer with* him on the subject.
