THE BEACH ROAD.
Deputation to Wait on County
Council.
At last night’s Council .meeting several letters were read from the Palmerston North Chamber, of Commerce bringing under, the Council’s notice the bad state .of the main road from Palmerston, near Himatangi, and also the shocking state of the road ,to the Beach, and asking that the Council appoint a delegate to wait.on the Manawatu County Council re same. The letter further stated that the Palmerston .Borough Council had appointed Cr Luxford as its representative, and asking the Council ..to, fix a date when such deputation should wait on the County Council.—Cr Stiles, Gray and Wilson agreed that some action was necessary.—Cr Hennessy pointed out that’the Borough Council had fulfilled its duty by keeping the road to the Beach in order to the borough boundary. The County Council might cite the borough as a contributing body if it decided to form and metal the road. —Crs Stiles, Shadbolt, Gray and Wilson thought that the Council should be prepared to bear a portion of the cost of such work. — The Mayor said that it would be too late for the deputation to wait on the County Council at its next meeting, on Wednesday.—lt was finally resolved that the Mayor and Cr Hennessy represent the Foxton Council on the deputation which is to wait on the Manawatu County Council at its March meeting.
