MANAWATU ROWING CLUB.

A meeting of the committee of the above Club was held in Mr Rough’s rooms last night. Present : Messrs B. G. .Gower (chair), P. Hennessy, Gordon, Whibley, Rough, Hornblow, arid the Secretary (Mr Fowler). The Secretary explained that the meeting had been called for the purpose of putting affairs at the; Club’s shed under better control. He stated members of committee could not always be at tbe shed to protect the Club’s property, and he took exception to the committee being blamed for the existing state of things. .Mr Hornblow pointed out the damage that had been done to boats, infringement of rules by unfinancial members, etc., and suggested the appointment of a caretaker who would protect the Club’s property, and exclude all save financial members using the boats. He had spoken to a suitable man who was prepared to undertake the duties.

Mr Hennessy, who, together with Mr Gower, constitute tbe Club’s trustees, stated tUat from information received, and personal inspection, he had decided to lock up the Club’s property until matters had been placed on a more satisfactory footing. He was of opinion that a caretaker, should be appqiuted. : It was finally agreed to appoint Mr Smith as the Club’s caretaker, with full power to enforce the rules in reference to boats, etc., and to prosecute persons other than members from trespassing in the Club’s sheds.

The 1 contractor,, who has been unable to construct the pontoon, will make a statt at an early date. The contract price for the work is £iA iosMessrs Gordon, Whibley and the .Secretary were instructed to take, an inventory of tbe Club’s property, and to report bn necessary repairs to boats, etc. 'The meeting then rose.
