TENNIS.

[By Te Kara.]

The Association fixture Foxton v. Taonui took place on the local courts on Saturday last, and resulted in an absolute walk-over, — a regular “cake-walk”—for the visitors, who showed their superiority by winning with a substantial margin of 201 points. This margin of points to spare should constitute a record. Taonui’s win was the result of superior play. The committee responsible for choosing the local players can be thanked for the “ wreck ” because of their childish policy in omitting to include Clemett (the Club’s best player) and Robinson, These players were fired out because they had not taken part in the Club’s ladder competition. Ido not say that by the inclusion of Clemett and Robinson victory would have been on the side of Foxton, but a ridiculous situation would have been saved. The whole affair has caused much grumbling, and the wish is expressed that in arranging future Club competitions, that certain members of the committee should lose themselves. The visitors were hospitably entertained, and spent an enjoyable time. Appended are the scores: — gentlemen’s singees.
