Gisßorne, January 19. The Hons. M’Nab and Carroll on Saturday night visited the Mangapapa School, where ninetyfive children are taught daily .in a room 23 feet by 20 feet. Mr M’Nab said that Mr Fowlds, Minister for Education, would inspect the school early next month. Dunedin, January 18. In the Police Court to-day, Joe Chiug, a Chinese shopkeeper, was fined 20s and costs, for Sunday trading. The defence was that accused was a new arrival from China, and did not know the English language or the -illegality of Sunday trading. The Dunedin Homing Club last week held a record Dominion fly for one day, viz., from Napier to Dunedin, a distance of 554 miles. Finnegan’s Apres Moi completed the distance in i4hrs sgmins. Three other birds reached their lofts the same day. Thirtv-seven birds, representing twelve lofts, took part in the fly.
