STATISTICAL.
Wellington, January 15. The Registrar-General estimates that the population of the Dominion at the end of December last was 988,071 made up as follows: — Europeans 929,000, Maoris 47,731, Cook Islands 12,340. The arrivals in the Dominio last year totalled 36,108, the increase of population for the year being 20,295. The imports for the year were valued at £16,982,046, and the exports £20,069,600, which is a record. The value of the principal export was: — Wool £6,376,021, frozen meat.£3,438,538 butter £1,615,622, hemp,£B2 1,898, kauri gum £579. 88 7. cheese ,£663,360, oats ,£4681, gold £2,029,490.
