HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of the above Society was held in the Secretary’s office on Thursday night. The Rev. G. K. Aitken presided. Mr Wighton, the well-known nurseryman, was also in attendance, and made many suggestions in respect to the forthcoming show, which, if carried out, will add to its attractiveness. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his attendance and valuable suggestions. 1 Mr Woods reported that the subcommittee appointed to allot prizes in the various sections had completed their work, and the catalogue was now ready for printing. It was decided to have the catalogue printed immediately, and to be issued not later than the beginning of February. Mr v Wighton awarded a special prize of one guinea for the best collection of fruit, and half a guinea for the best collection of cut blooms. On the motion of Messrs Woods and Bullard, it was decided to extend the Show from the 18th to the evening of the 19th, thus making a two days’ exhibition. It was decided to ask Professor Kirk for exhibits of fruit and farm produce from the State F'arm at Levin, and also endeavour to obtain a collection of other exhibits of interest to fruit-growers. The Secretary was also instructed to Write to Messrs W. H. Taylor (of the State Farm) and W. W. Smith (of Palmerston North), asking whether they would lecture on the afternoons of the Show on subjects of interest to horticulturalists. After transacting other formal business the meeting rose.
