CRICKET.

Sandon Combined v. Foxton Combined.

A friendly match was played in in the Park last Saturday, and resulted in a ’‘cake walk” for the visitors by 10:; runs. Sandon won the toss and elected to bat, and it was soon apparent that they had a strong batting team—too good for their opponents’ bowling. Walters with 44 retired, and Reicher 19, are batsmen of the finished type, and it would be as well if some of our local cricketers follpwed their style. Drew batted well for 16, whilst Bowater made a lucky 16 not out. The Foxton bowling, though straight, was not difficult to play, whilst the fielding was passable, Furrie especially distinguishing himself, the catches that were missed being difficult ones. When the score was 128, the Sandon skipper elected to close the innings. There was about half an hour left to play, and before that period had expired Foxton were all out for a paltry 26, due to the deadly bowling of Reicher and Mclntyre, the highest scorer being Byes. Their breakdown, seeing the personelle of the team, came as a surprise, and showed that cricket is a very funny game. Afternoon tea was again kindly provided by the Foxton ladies, whose kindness was duly acknowledged at the end of the game. _ A return match at Sandon is anticipated before the season closes. We understand that the energetic Secretary for the Association will take the matter in band. The following are the scores for Saturday; SANDON. E. H. Walters retd 44 E. W.
