PUPILS’ CONCERT.
The concert held in the Public Hall last night by Mr Berthold’s pupils, assisted by friends, was a decided musical success. The pianoforte solos and duets gave evidence of careful tuition and the interpretations of a number of catchy and difficult pieces, reflected* credit both on pupils and teacher. K The first portion of the programme contained 19 instrumental items by r the pupils, each of which was heartily applauded by the audience. The second half of the programme was devoted to vocal items. Mr Alf Fraser kindly officiated as stage manager and consequently there were no stage waits. Although there were at times evidences of stage nervousness on the part of several pupils, yet there was not a single breakdown or hitch in any of the items. Mr Berthold’s orchestra contributed two very pleasing overtures. The following pupils contributed instrracntal items :—Master H. Frankland. S. Reeves, (vocal) C. Berthold, Misses Phoebe Symons, K. Berthold, C, Honore, V. Nye, Elsie Reeves, V. Nye, D. Wright, F. Edwards, B. Speirs, K. Spelman, M. and L. Gray, N. Cummerfield. Those who assisted vocally were Mrs Healey, Misses K. Spelman, Jenks, Norah Foley (Miss Adams, who made a decided hit in the character song “Bainesq”) Aitken, Cdrgill, and Messrs Moorman (flute solo); Gray (pianoforte), Hornblow, Betty, and Henderson. Accompaniments were played by Misses McGrath and Fnrrie. We heartily congratulate the pupils upon the proficiency shown, especially in pianoforte work, which speaks volumes for the careful training of their instructor. The concert concluded with the National Anthem.
