President Roosevelt’s reiteration that he is not a candidate for the Presidency is interpreted as being intended to defeat the intrigues of some wire-pullers, who are ostensibly working for President Roosevelt, but, in reality, for Mr G. B. Cortelyou (Secretary to the Treasury), possibly without Mr Cortelyou’s knowledge.
