CRICKET.

United Palmerston North and Foxton (combined) match was played on the Park on Saturday afternoon in perfect weather, resulting in a decisive win for the local eleven. Mr F. Wells skippered the visiting team, while Mr Redgrave headed the locals. The Foxton team weie composed of the pick of the three local clubs, and has given geueial satisfaction in the immediate cricket world. Winning the toss, Redgrave decided to bat, and the innings is said to constitute a record for any Foxton team on the local ground, being declared with 9 wickets down for 152.

The United’s innings opened disastrously, the first wicket being down for two, and the next for three, the third for three until O’Connor came and somewhat steadied the score with a good 10. The only other man to score was Pickering, who also put on 10 runs. The bowling of the local team was too good, Bo we, particularly showing excellent form, going through the innings with six wickets for 15 runs. Redgrave’s leg-breaks puzzled all the batsmen, and although he bagged only two wickets, he kept the score down. The fielding of the U.C.C. was undoubtedly good, not a catch being missed. Foxton’s fielding was a very sore point, no less than four catches being missed off one man, though they afterwards brightened up, and effected some very good catches. The ladies provided afternoon tea, which was very much appreciated. The following are the scores: — Foxton United.
