WATER SUPPLY.
At last night’s Council meeting Cr Hennessy said he had been requested to ask what the approximate cost would be to serve Foxton with a water supply from Shannon. He said that people at this time of the year turned their attention to the necessity for a water supply. The information he require.! was tl e cost of laying 6in mains from Shannon to Foxton. The erection of the ShannonMoutoa bridge would get oyer a difficulty that previously existed. He would not say that he would support the scheme. The Clerk said that an approximate cost had been given off-hand at from .£30',000 to ,£50,000. The Mayor said if they could ascertain the exact d'stance to the intake they could give an approximate cost. He thought that from eleven to fifteen miles of piping would be required. There would be a fall of about looft.
Cr Frankland regretted Cr Baker’s absence as the latter had carefully studied the subject which he had stated would cost from £ro,odo to ,£12,000. The subject was then allowed to drop. ■
