London, December 7. Fourteen persons were suffocated by smoke from a fire in a tunnel in course of construction between New York and New Jersey. Monte Carlo, Dec. 8. Mrs Goold told her lawyer that she preferred death to imprisonment, and hopes to be executed in front of the Monte Carlo Basin. Nevertheless the Goolds have appealed against their sentence.
