Interviewed at Auckland on Tuesdays, the Premier stated that the financial crisis in America had not affected New Zealand. All the million loan for public works had been secured on satisfactory terms, and for the purchase of gilt-edged securities in Tendon had been obtained without going on the London money market. The financial position of the dominion had never been stronger than at present. The new tariff was having a very beneficial effect on trade. No established industries had been affected, while already three industrial concerns were about to commence as a result of its operations.
