Shannon Ferry.—As requested by the Council, I went to the the Ferry to make arrangements with the present ferryman to work the ferry for a period of twelve months, but found I had a difficult task to perform, as he (Mr Piggott) was indisposed at first to work the Ferry under any consideration. However, after a good deal of discussion on the matter, he decided to take it on under the old scale of charges, the ferryman to have all tolls, and the Ferry will not be worked after ten o’clock at night unless urgently needed. The Council is to keep up the approaches to Ferr> r . Mr John Stevens, M.H.R., wrote respecting the stop-bank which has been erected at the Moutoa Ferry, stating his firm had decided that, as the slightest flood in the Manawatu river overflows the Moutoa road at Burr’s corner, it was necessary .to reconstruct the bank which has been washed away, and consequently his firm had entered into an arrangement with Dr Wall, who now owns the property. The total cost of the work would be over £ 2OO. They proposed erecting the bank at the highest point up the river, at which a serious overflow occurs.— Held over.
