SCHOOL CLASSIFICATION.
MR CRICHTON IN REPLY. Sir,— ln your issue of Tuesday last, statements appeared that were obtained by your representative from Mr Adams in relation to my previous letter. Mr Adams states that he is not desirous of entering into a newspaper controversy between himself and parents. It is through the agency of the press that wrongs are righted and public questions of the above description are thoroughly criticised. There are a considerable number of parents in Foxton who would like an explanation on the above subject through the medium of your valuable journal. I would like to ask Mr Adams on what authority he is working, when he reduced my eldest daughter from St, VI. to St. V., in face of the fact of her gaining a certificate of competency from the Inspector ? ‘As regards her younger sister, Mr Adams attempts to show that her. efforts were more successful but he omitted to state that he had previously reduced her from St. V. to St. IV. and afterwards elevated her to St. V. Under such a system the examination at the local school ought to be highly gratifying to the head teacher but practically of no advantage to the children, lam acquainted with the fact there are children attending the local school who have been attending schools in other districts who also have been reduced in their standards since coming under the tuition of our local headmaster. It will be news to parents to hear that Mr Adams is willing to enlighten them upon matters educational. So disgusted was I with the trend of events that I wired to the Chairman of the Wanganui Education Board, a copy of which together with the reply are appended. Hoping you will find space to publish this letter, and trusting that Mr Adams will satisfy the wants of a large number of parents by giving an explanation —Yours, etc., R. Crichton. (Copy of telegram.) Foxton, Nov. is> Mr Pirani, Feilding.— Can master put a pupil into lower standard after said pupil has passed VI. Standard with ticket of competency and next examination put pupil through V. ? —R. Crichton. (Reply.) Feilding, Nov. 15,
R. Crichton, Foxton.—Master cannot present pupil for lower standard than passed. Fred Pirani.
